Violin soloist, Huifang Chen, accompanied by the Greater Miami Youth Symphony ("GMYS"), will perform the world premiere of Thomas Sleeper's Concerto for Violin - "Hypnagogia" at UM Gusman Hall in March.
Thomas Sleeper's, "Hypnagogia," is a powerful three-movement work referring to the transitional state between wakefulness and sleep. The solo was written specifically for the musical talents of Mrs. Huifang Chen, a Curtis Institute graduate and the Music Director for GMYS. Hypnagogia, commissioned by the Greater Miami Youth Symphony, is a multimedia presentation with a visual component which includes projections of images by local artist, Sherri Tan, to be displayed above the orchestra during the performance. Other works to be performed include Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" and Thomas Sleeper's "Hana's Day out."
